PAT OLIPHANT - 1975 Political Cartoon Rough - IRS Gag - Rare in This Form

ARTWORK DETAILS:

Artist(s): Pat Oliphant, All
Media Type: Pencil
Art Type: Comic Strip
Views: 0
Added to Site: 11/4/2017

Simply put, Pat Oliphant is one of the greatest political cartoonists of the latter half of the 20th century and into the 21st century. With both a biting line and wit, Oliphant has pulled few punches in his powerful political and editorial commentaries over the decades. Oliphant began his cartooning career in his home country of Australia, later moving the United States where he began to work for the Denver Post. Oliphant later moved out east and worked for the Washington Star until the paper folded in 1981. Ever since then, Oliphants cartoons have been syndicated by the Universal Press Syndicate, and are seen worldwide. Im very pleased to be able to offer a preliminary drawing for an Oliphant IRS-related cartoon that appeared on April 19, 1975. Drawn in pencil on lightweight paper, the cartoon pictures an IRS agent telling a woman, Congratulations. You have qualified for a rebate! But first a few questions about your political affiliations, sex lives and drinking habits The characters are pure Oliphant, right down to the curmudgeonly husband sitting in the chair in the background. Oliphants published work is not at all common, but this is the only time Ive seen a preliminary piece offered for sale. It allows for a rare inside peek at Oliphants process, and that process is a wonderful thing to behold. Signed and inscribed in the upper right corner, the drawing is in solid Fine condition, with an impression of a large paper clip being the only flaw. 8x 14. $200.00 + 9.00 Priority shipping.
