Nobody, and we mean, nobody, had a greater impact, or loomed larger over the history of the comic book art form than Jack Kirby. His career spanned the early days in the industry where he drew random pages under a variety of pseudonyms on to a tenure at Timely Comics, where he co-created Captain America. Then, to his post-war journeyman phase, the Silver Age explosion of creativity, where, along with Stan Lee, he introduced some of the most-popular and enduring characters the art form has ever seen, to his Fourth World saga at DC, and on into a late career foray into the independent comic field. The “King” has saturated into comic book reader’s and creator’s psyches for decades until his passing in the mid-90s.
In celebration of what would have been Kirby’s 100th birthday this year, ComicConnect is thrilled to present a cross-section of pages from his career in our current Event Auction ending Monday. Chronologically, the pieces span from 1959 to 1983, nearly twenty-five years of breathtaking art: Tales of Suspense #23 pg. 9, Fantastic Four Annual #2 pgs. 3 & 9, Incredible Hulk #4 pg. 8; Kamandi #17 pg. 18, Richard Dragon Kung-Fu Fighter #3 pg. 16, Forever People #25 pg. 25, Hunger Dogs pg. 30, and Silver Star #2 pg. 1. These pages are all impressive, historic, one-of-a-kind collectibles from the man that is universally acknowledged to be the greatest comic book artist of all time.
ComicConnect’s original art auction ends Monday, September 11, 2017 at 7 pm EDT.
Happy Birthday to the King!
